Applicants must hold a valid M.D. or Ph.D. degree and have experience in genetics, human genetics, or a related field.

All graduates of our Laboratory Fellowship Programs will be expected to sit for the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics Board Examinations upon successful completion of their training. Criteria for Board Examination are described on the ABMGG website.

Individuals whose doctoral degree was conferred outside the United States, Canada or Puerto Rico should review the ABMGG web site for information on  “Foreign Medical Graduates Credentials Check.

Those candidates who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents and those who graduated from foreign medical or graduate schools should note the following additional information:

  1. The Harvard Medical School Genetics Training Program cannot accept applications from candidates needing visa sponsorship to train in our programs, with the exception of Canadian or Mexican citizens seeking TN visas. We are unable to sponsor visas of any other kind.
  2. Applicants with an earned PhD degree or MD degree from a country in which English is not the primary language must have taken the TOEFL-iBT examination and achieved minimum total score of 85 and a minimum score of 23 on the speaking portion of the exam within one year before applying to the program. TOEFL-iBT exam results must be received by the HMSGTP before any application can be evaluated.
